Southwold Arts Festival & 'I make fun stuff' Fairs
Edwin Mitchell-Finch
It all started on Saturday morning with glorious sunshine and a beautiful morning to kick start Southwold's Arts festival week!
The street fair is always popular with visitors and locals and the high street was buzzing with anticipation of a colourful parade and some brisk trading! When the parade went through there were dancers, bands, stilt walkers and children all dressed in their circus themed finery, everyone enjoyed the display. People were out in their summer clothes and we had a brilliant morning of sales and lovely comments as we had our new range of ' fruit & veg' brooches on display with our other new addition some pretty bumble bees brooches!
But as the morning went on the clouds built up, the skies darkened and by 2pm the rain began followed by more and more heavy downpours which put paid to any more browsing and a mass exodus for somewhere dry!
The packing up began and the fight to keep all of the precious stock, so carefully made, dry and safe. The gazebo would have to be taken down and left in a heap in the studio as on the Sunday we were off to 'I Make Fun Stuff's' St Peter's Street fair!!
Sunday morning started, in contrast to Saturday, very wet with pouring rain all the way to Ipswich. We arrived at about 8.40 and had to sit in the car as it was obvious that no set up could happen in the wet, the organisers were dreading the thought of having to cancel but a break in the grey appeared and with some trepidation all the stallholders started to arrange their beautiful arts, crafts and vintage wares! The sun shone through most of the day and lots of sales were made and I now have lots of new friends and followers on Instagram!
Thanks to all of you that picked up a business card at the weekend, if you saw things you liked or if there is anything you love but see is sold on the site then please don't hesitate to contact us as a new similar unique piece can be made to order!!
Until the next fair!!
